You’ve decided that the buzzing, whistling and chirping noises in your ears have got to go, and you are now wondering which tinnitus treatment is right for you.

See Your Doctor First
Hopefully by now you’ve already seen your doctor and have determined that there is no underlying medical condition that could be responsible for your tinnitus. Your doctor may have even suggested prescription medication to relieve your tinnitus, but there is no evidence that drugs offer any long-term tinnitus cure.

Reduce Noise Around You
First, reduce the noises of tinnitus. Are there any noises in particular that seem to “set off” your tinnitus? It’s a medical fact that certain frequencies of sound can set off an episode of tinnitus. Do some experimentation,  does your tinnitus seem to get worse after a long, noisy day in the factory? Do you drive down the highway with your window open, as the sounds of rushing air fills your ear? Or, do you pop in a hard-rock cd in your car’s stereo and listen full-blast on your drive home from work? It could be worth your time (and your ears) to find out what noises exacerbates your tinnitus.

Electronic Miracles

Second, have you considered using electronic devices such as a hearing aid or a tinnitus “masker?” Hearing aids can improve the hearing to such an extent that the noises of tinnitus are ignored much more easily. A tinnitus “masker” can introduce sounds similar to those of your tinnitus, effectively canceling out the tinnitus noises, and may be an excellent tinnitus treatment. Do you notice that your tinnitus seems to go away when you’re listening to something? This technology is similar to that of noise-canceling headphones – it can be very effective at temporarily relieving your tinnitus.

Stress and Anxiety
Third, Is your tinnitus caused by stress and anxiety? is it possible that you can develop some highly personalized ways of lessening the perception of your tinnitus noises through stress and anxiety reduction? This method has basis in medical fact and, with time and effort, can bring relief to tinnitus sufferers.

Lifestyle changes must be made for this tinnitus treatment, but the relief from tinnitus can be dramatic. Some examples include high-stress lifestyle modification, practicing stress-relieving techniques on a regular basis and other related practices. As always, the key to reducing your non-medically caused tinnitus is to keep an open mind and to allow some experimentation as you consider some of the many treatment options for your tinnitus.

The three options discussed above are several of the more practical and easily accomplished tinnitus remedies available today. If these don’t bring some relief, don’t give up hope – there are always more ideas around the corner!
